AES Students Team Up with Vineyard Vines to Help Students At Risk

Ashland Elementary School students welcomed an opportunity to help students in low-income school districts.  Vineyard Vines, an American clothing and accessory retailer known for its pink whale logo, is famous for its altruistic spirit and commitment to giving back to the community.  In this year’s Whales for a Cause promotion, Vineyard Vines teamed up with Simon & Schuster to support the Pajama Program, an organization that works to provide new pajamas and books to at-risk children.  Participants were encouraged to decorate one of the blank Whales for a Cause whales using a favorite book as inspiration.  When Mrs. Kelly Avery and Mr. Jim Wenhart’s 4th and 5th-grade students learned about the program, they were excited to illustrate a whale and help another child.  The students’ artwork was shared with Vineyard Vines and as a result, 24 new books were donated through the program.  Kelsey McGettigan, a member of the Vineyard Vines marketing team, thanked the students for their contribution by visiting the school, reading a book to the class and giving each child a pink foam whale hat.
